These activities have been created to help you observe items as you are completing the Early Years Evaluation – Teacher Assessment (EYE-TA). The activities focus on Domain A (Awareness of Self and Environment) and Domain C (Cognitive Skills) as these are the items that teachers have identified as the most challenging to observe during regular class time. We have included two activities per item for each domain, with the exception of C2 (Understand how books are manipulated.), which teachers did not identify as a challenging item to assess.
While the activities focus on the items in Domains A or C, they can also be used to observe items in other domains. These are listed in the ‘Additional Items Assessed’ section. Additionally, the ‘Extend to Assess More Items’ section at the end of each activity provides modifications you can make to the activity to assess even more items. These activities can be used conjunctly with the EYE-TA Planning Calendar. This calendar was created to help you plan your activities as you are collecting your data. It is especially useful for ensuring you have enough time to assess the items that are not easily assessed with everyday activities, routines, or centres. Many of the activities listed in the sample version of the EYE-TA Planning Calendar are included in this document.
