How do I ensure my staff is trained? Do you have private or joint online options? Do you still offer in-person training? What is the cost?
At this time, we will not be offering in-person training due to travelling restrictions. We are, however; still offering private and joint webinar training sessions. Contact your EYE Account Success Manager for more information.
If you'd like to do your own training in-house, check out our suite of training resources (PowerPoints and videos) in the 'Resources and Help' section of our website.

What if educators/evaluators want suggestions on COVID best practices?
Safety guidelines and school policy vary greatly from one jurisdiction to another, making it difficult to provide specific recommendations. Please contact us to discuss this question.
Can I still order EYE-DA supplies? What safety measures are in place when packing materials?
Yes, you can still order more EYE-DA supplies. Please contact your Account Success Manager to place your order, as usual.
We have measures in place to ensure the safe distribution of EYE-DA materials. Prior to any materials being handled, the person responsible for shipping washes and sanitizes their hands. Please note that there may be COVID-related shipping delays.

How are other jurisdictions dealing with the matter of EYE-DA materials being used by multiple children?
There are measures that can be implemented to minimize cross-contamination during an EYE-DA evaluation. These include placing an acetate sheet over the flipbook pages for the items where children need to point to certain images, having extra sets of kit items that can be stored away for a set number of days, and washing/sanitizing non-porous items like bears, counting chips, and scissors.
Is it preferable for evaluators to wear visors or masks while administering the assessment?
Although The Learning Bar does not have an official position on this, we would recommend visors for a few reasons. Firstly, it allows the child to see the evaluator’s mouth movements and secondly it allows for clearer expression overall. These advantages are especially important for the items dealing with rhyming words and same sounds, for instance.
Can I extend my session? (since I’m not going to see my children in person as often, since some children may be coming back soon after the session is set to close, etc.)
Yes, absolutely! Contact us to discuss this.
Something to consider: whereas some children may be returning to classroom instruction later in the school year, there may be an option to open a mid-evaluation (along with your regular pre- and post-evaluations) at a time of your choosing to capture these new children entering the classroom. If you are interested, contact us to discuss this option.
Can I delay or postpone my start date?

What if there is another school/centre shut-down?
We will be flexible and responsive to your needs. Contact us to discuss options.
What if we aren’t able to assess at all?
We can discuss some different options. Please feel free to contact us.
Can I complete the EYE-DA online?
Yes, we have a virtual version of the EYE-DA available, along with some supporting documents for evaluators and families. Please contact us directly if you would like to learn more about this option and to access the materials.
Do you have activity suggestions for families?
Evaluators can share some of the EYE resources we have available for families, specifically the Family Activity Cards and Experiences that Can Strengthen your Child's Development.
What can I expect in terms of results? Will they be different from other years, i.e., will there be a “COVID slide”?
It is hard to tell how the events from last year and the current circumstances will affect the results. You may wish to compare this year’s results with the ones from previous years’ cohorts to see if there have been any significant changes.
Generally, we suggest having no expectations in terms of what you will see as results. The EYE-DA is a great tool for identifying areas that require more attention and focusing your instructions on these.

Will the scoring thresholds be changed for children assessed online?
No, the scoring criteria will remain the same regardless of whether children are assessed online or in-person.
How do I share the results with families?
EYE results can still be shared with families. Child Reports can be mailed home (in many cases) and a virtual follow-up meeting between families and teachers can be arranged. Educators can also arrange to meet with families virtually and reports can be shared at that time via screen sharing technologically. The second page of the Child Report (if used by your jurisdiction) is a useful way to share information with families as well.
How do I work with my multidisciplinary team to analyze the results and create plans for the children?
The EYE Child Action Plan (for the pre-assessment) is a great template to brainstorm, record, and track child-level information as you work through a plan with your team.
Are the online observations as good as in person? How do the results from online assessments compare to in-person assessments?
Completing assessments in an online environment presents some unique challenges that vary from one household to another. As evaluators are completing the online assessment, it will be important for them to note any disruptions/issues that arise as these may have an impact on results.
