Using the EYE-TA to Inform School Planning Print or save as PDF

The Early Years Evaluation - Teacher Assessment (EYE-TA) is an assessment framework used to identify the developmental skills of children as they prepare for and make the transition to Grade 1. To teach children to read early and well, educators must determine the children’s competency levels across five domains: awareness of self and environment; social skills and approaches to learning; cognitive skills; language and communication; and physical development. The EYE-TA provides systematic frameworks that educators can use during the kindergarten year to structure their frequent observations and informal assessments as they occur naturally in the classroom environment.

Having a clear picture of each child’s strengths and development skills as they start kindergarten is the first step to literacy development and a child’s success at school.
