What is the RAN?
Rapid Automatized Naming (RAN) involves quickly and accurately naming repeated sets of familiar items. RAN can be considered a good predictor of future reading difficulties.
Our RAN assessment asks children to name a series of letters and then a series of numbers. Children are evaluated based on the time it takes to complete the assessment and the number of errors they make.
Details
The RAN assessment is an optional assessment that divisions using the EYE-PR can access at no additional cost. EYE coordinators decide whether they want their teachers to have access to the RAN. This is made at the jurisdiction level and applied to everyone within the jurisdiction.
The RAN assessment is housed in our Learning Management System (LMS), and the scores are entered into the EYE Online Data Entry Site. Once the session is closed, data files containing the EYE-PR results and the RAN results can be downloaded. The result section will appear blank if no scores are submitted.
Note: If you see that a section of the raw data file is blank, it simply means that no RAN scores were recorded for this child.
